Update - Thursday, September 17, 2026: Puma has been asked to withdraw early from its kit partnership with Olympique de Marseille, Footy Headlines has been told, paving the way for Adidas to take over ahead of schedule.
While Adidas was initially expected to replace Puma starting in the 28-29 season on a massive deal worth an estimated €40-50 million per year, Marseille have been actively exploring a negotiated early termination or buyout of Puma's final contract year to secure the German brand's return for the 27-28 campaign. Puma's current agreement, extended in 2021 to run through June 2028, pays OM approximately €20-25 million annually, meaning an early exit would allow the Ligue 1 club to virtually double their commercial kit revenue a full year earlier.
Following major reports earlier this summer that Olympique de Marseille have agreed to a blockbuster reunion with Adidas, the general consensus has pointed to a start date in 2028. However, an earlier start is apparently on the cards.
Adidas Marseille Kit Deal: 27-28 Begin Almost Certain
A French source has informed us that there is a strong possibility Adidas could take over as Marseille's kit supplier from the 27-28 season already, one year earlier than initially reported.
Media reports in France, initially broken by RMC Sport and confirmed by AFP, indicated that Adidas had sealed an agreement to replace Puma once the current contract expires in June 2028. That timeline would make the 28-29 campaign the official start of the new partnership. Yet, the possibility of bringing that transition forward to 2027 is now being explored.
Puma has been outfitting OM since 2018 on an agreement estimated at roughly €20m to €25m per year. By contrast, the incoming Adidas deal is expected to nearly double those figures, approaching €40m to €50m annually. With such a substantial financial gap and massive anticipation for the brand's return, reaching an agreement for an early exit ahead of the 27-28 season would make plenty of commercial sense for the Phocéen club.
Adidas represents the most iconic era of Olympique de Marseille's history, having supplied the club almost uninterrupted between 1974 and 2018, most notably during their 1993 UEFA Champions League triumph.
