In early February 2019, Frenkie de Jong revealed that Nike wants him to wear his first name Frenkie on the shirt instead of De Jong. Now Frenkie de Jong was asked by an Ajax fan which number and name he would wear for FC Barcelona and revealed that he has decided against wearing his first name on the kit.

Frenkie de Jong was asked in Dutch which number and which name would be printed on his FC Barcelona kit. He answered that 'De Jong' will be on his shirt, just as it is the case with his Ajax kit currently.
Frenkie de Jong's shirt number for FC Barcelona has not been decided yet. His preferred numbers, the 7 (Worn for Holland - used by Coutinho) and the 21 (Worn for Ajax, used by Aleñá), are currently occupied.
