Will Adidas Ever Release a Modern Bayern Remake Kit?
- Adidas Remake Kits: Many major Adidas clubs have received 1-to-1 remakes of their classic kits, but Bayern Munich has not received a modern remake kit with the club's actual logo, despite a long partnership with Adidas.
- Bayern's Existing Adidas Collections: Adidas has released 'Bring It Back' collections and Terrace Icons collections for Bayern featuring retro styling, but these lack the authenticity of a true remake kit.
- Potential Reasons for Delay: The delay in releasing a Bayern remake kit could be due to strategic timing, Bayern's licensing strategy, negotiations between the club and Adidas, or concerns about cannibalizing sales of current designs.
Bayern Munich supporters watching the remake kit boom unfold must feel a peculiar mix of envy and confusion. Liverpool joined Adidas in 2025 and will remake kits around half a year later. Real Madrid finally released their first remake collection in April 2025. Arsenal, Manchester United, Newcastle, Boca, River - all the major Adidas clubs with an Adidas history have received proper 1-to-1 remake treatments of their classic kits.
Adidas Remake Kits For Other Teams
Yet Bayern, despite nearly 50 years of partnership with Adidas and a trophy cabinet that could fill a museum, hasn't received a modern remake kit with the club's actual logo. It's a glaring omission that raises a simple question: why?
The club hasn't been completely ignored. Adidas released a "Bring It Back" collection for Bayern featuring a 1970s home jersey remake, but this falls under the Adidas Originals umbrella rather than an official remake in the same vein as what other clubs have received. Adidas also released a Bayern remake keeper kit, in 2023, which was rather part of a celebration of famous keepers wearing Adidas.
The options are endless. Bayern has been sponsored by Adidas since the 1970s, giving the brand access to decades of classic designs, including not only all the 1990s shirts but also the Champions League-winning designs from 2001 and 2013. Any of these would generate massive commercial interest and satisfy the nostalgia of supporters who remember those glory days.
So why the hesitation? Perhaps Adidas is being strategic about release timing, waiting for a significant anniversary or milestone. We know that Bayern's 2026-27 away kit will feature the return of the classic Bayern e.V. crest from 1966 and the Adidas Trefoil logo, potentially their best alternative kit in recent years.
Meanwhile, Adidas has released multiple Terrace Icons and LFSTLR collections for Bayern featuring retro styling, proving there's demand for heritage products. The difference is that these collections lack the authenticity of a true remake.
The commercial logic seems questionable. Liverpool will receive 1990s remakes almost immediately after joining Adidas. Real Madrid, after years of waiting, finally got their 1999-2000 collection. Clubs smaller and with shorter Adidas partnerships have received remake treatments. Bayern, as one of the brand's longest-standing and most successful partners, should theoretically be first in line for such releases.
Perhaps the answer lies in Bayern's broader licensing and merchandising strategy, or in negotiations between the club and Adidas about how to position these products. Maybe there are complications around which specific kits to remake, or concerns about cannibalizing sales of current designs. Or perhaps Adidas is simply saving Bayern for a future release that will coincide with a major club anniversary or achievement.
