Boca Juniors Pushing for Enhanced Adidas Contract Terms?
The current 10-year partnership between Boca Juniors and Adidas took effect in January 2020, locking the Buenos Aires giants with the three stripes through the end of 2029 after famously ending their long-standing relationship with Nike.
At the time of signing, the deal was among the most lucrative kit supplier agreements in South American football, securing a reported base payment of around $10 million per season alongside generous royalty fees and performance-related bonuses.
However, claims emerging from Argentina state that Boca officials believe the club's commercial standing warrants an even higher package. Club-linked circles allege that Boca's merchandise and shirt sales dramatically exceed those of eternal rivals River Plate, with some claiming sales figures nearly double those of the Millonario, providing Boca with the leverage needed to seek updated financial conditions.
Adidas finds itself in a unique position in Argentina, as the German brand famously supplies both Boca Juniors and River Plate. River extended their contract with Adidas in late 2021 through to 2027, sparking ongoing public debate and scrutiny over which of the Superclásico rivals commands higher commercial income and retail sales across domestic and international markets.
While early renegotiations during a ten-year cycle are not unprecedented when commercial values rise rapidly, it remains to be seen whether Adidas will agree to revise Boca's terms ahead of the deal's 2029 expiration.
