New 1860 Munich Logo Revealed?
- Trademark Ownership Forces Change: Majority shareholder Hasan Ismaik owns the trademark rights to the current 1860 Munich logo, which could force the club to adopt a different crest next season if no agreement is reached.
- Retro Lion Circulating as Alternative: A retro lion logo has been circulating online, shared by a supervisory board member, as a potential alternative to the current 1860 Munich crest.
- Operational and Fan Backlash: A logo change would create problems for kit supplier Joma, who has already produced shirts, and has been met with largely negative reactions from fans, exacerbating the club's crisis.
A new 1860 Munich logo may have been revealed, as the club could be forced to play with a different crest next season.
1860 Munich Forced to Change Logo?
The reason for 1860 Munich to change their logo? The majority shareholder Hasan Ismaik owns the trademark rights to the current 1860 Munich logo through his company, and as long as there is no clean separation between the club and the investor with an agreement over the brand and usage rights, 1860 Munich might lose access to their iconic crest. A retro lion logo has been circulating online since Thursday, shared by supervisory board member Sebastian Seeböck with the words "Mit Leib und Seele" ("With body and soul").
Whether the retro design will actually become the new official 1860 Munich logo remains open, but it is clear that the club would need an alternative crest if they can no longer use the current trademark - making a new or historical logo not just a design decision, but a legal necessity.
The situation would also create problems for kit supplier Joma, as the Spanish company has reportedly already produced several thousand 1860 Munich shirts for the new season, presumably featuring the current logo.
For many fans, a forced logo change would be another deep cut in an unprecedented crisis of the traditional club. The reactions to the leaked retro lion have been largely negative so far, with one fan joking that the lion looks "like it fought against 80 hyenas".
