Unlike Chelsea? Atlético Madrid to Keep Whalefin Kit Sponsor?

  • Atlético Madrid & Whalefin Partnership: Despite reports suggesting a termination, Atlético Madrid and Whalefin will continue their five-year sponsorship deal, unlike Chelsea.
  • Whalefin Financial Issues: Whalefin's parent company, Amber, has faced significant financial struggles, leading to business downsizing.
  • Kit Production & Sponsor Differences: While Atlético's 23-24 kits were released with the Whalefin logo, Nike produced some kits without it, unlike Chelsea who have ended their sponsorship and not included the logo.

Reports had suggested that Atlético Madrid and their main shirt sponsor, Whalefin, were set to terminate their five-year partnership after just one year. But now it seems like both parties will continue their relationship, in contrast to Chelsea.

The Singapore-based firm Amber, the owner of Whalefin, have struggled financially since at least mid-2022, forcing their company executives to slim down their business operations significantly in the face of mounting losses.

Atlético Sell 23-24 Kits With Whalefin Sponsor

The launch of Atlético's home and away kits for the 2023-2024 season reveals that the Whalefin logo is still prominently featured, indicating that the sponsorship deal remains in place.

Stake logo mocked-up on sponsorless kit

Interestingly, Nike, the kit manufacturer, are selling the Atlético kits without a main sponsor. This can be attributed to the expectation that the Whalefin deal would expire. Nike, therefore, decided to produce the kits without a main sponsor, similar to they had done with Chelsea.

Chelsea have apparently already ended their deal in December 2022

The situation regarding Chelsea and their sponsorship with Whalefin seems to be different. It appears that the partnership between Chelsea and Whalefin has ended already, as the Whalefin logo is no longer present on Chelsea's website. This is unlike Atlético Madrid, whose partnership with Whalefin is still visible on their website. Indeed, Chelsea have removed the logo of Whalefin from their website already in December 2022.

Do you think Whalefin will be on Atlético Madrid's kits for the whole 2023-2024 season? Comment below.
