1990s Jacquard Logo Kits Style Allowed By UEFA & FA Kit Rules

On July 21 2021, the new AFC Bournemouth 2021-22 away kit went on sale. It includes a special design feature that many think would be forbidden.

The kit features small embossed Umbro logos

If you are familiar with the UEFA Equipment regulations, you possibly thought it would be forbidden by UEFA Equipment Regulations. However, this is not the case.

In fact, it is defined in Article 24 of the official UEFA Equipment Regulations that it is allowed.

UEFA Equipment Regulations - Article 24 Jacquard weave or embossing

One type of manufacturer identification not exceeding 20cm² may also be incorporated into shirts and/or shorts using embossing, or jacquard weave in accordance with the provisions of Article 54, with no restrictions as to the number or positioning of the identification chosen.

The English FA does also allow kits to have that feature - the "manufacturer may incorporate one of its types of identification in jacquard weave form or by embossing in the shirt and/or shorts".

The FA Handbook: Permitted Advertising (Not Relating To Sponsors) - 2. Clothing Manufacturer (h)

"In addition to the club identification, the manufacturer may incorporate one of its types of identification in jacquard weave form or by embossing in the shirt and/or shorts. The type of manufacturer identification chosen must not exceed 20 square centimetres. There is no limitation as to the number and positioning of the type of manufacturer identification chosen.
The jacquard weave must be incorporated in the main colour and/ or one of the minor colours. It must neither dominate nor affect the distinctiveness of the kit."

What is not allowed is to have more than one club identification or manufacturer logo as a jacquard weave - this forced AS Roma to change its 2019-20 Nike third kit.
